BC Compliance Requirements

What BC WorkSafeBC Requires for Education and Childcare

Under British Columbia occupational health and safety regulations, employers are responsible for ensuring adequate first aid coverage is available in workplaces where employees, children, and students are present. Requirements are based on factors such as workplace risk level, number of workers, and access to emergency medical services.

⚡ WorkSafeBC First Aid Requirements

Employers must conduct a workplace first aid assessment to determine the level of first aid services and trained attendants required for their facility.

Certified first aid attendants may be required during operating hours depending on the number of workers, workplace hazards, and accessibility to emergency medical services.

Many childcare facilities, schools, camps, and youth programs require staff to maintain valid Standard First Aid & CPR certification as part of licensing, employment, or workplace safety policies.

Childcare and education employers are responsible for ensuring staff are properly trained to respond to emergencies involving children, students, coworkers, and visitors.
