Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level B Course - In Person

The Standard Child Care First Aid & CPR/AED Level B course is a comprehensive Canadian Red Cross two-day, in-person First Aid certification course specifically designed for individuals who work with or care for children and babies.

This course provides more comprehensive First Aid training with a strong focus on recognizing, preventing and responding to emergencies involving infants and children. Participants learn practical First Aid, CPR and AED skills, including how to respond to choking, breathing and circulation emergencies, injuries, sudden illnesses, childhood illnesses and other emergencies commonly encountered in child care settings.

The Canadian Red Cross Standard Child Care First Aid course is designed to meet applicable provincial and territorial early childhood education and daycare worker First Aid requirements. Specific employment and licensing requirements should always be confirmed with the applicable provincial or territorial authority.

Duration

Standard Child Care First Aid: Minimum 16 hours in class over 2 days

This is a fully in-person, instructor-led, hands-on course with practical First Aid, CPR and AED training, skills practice and emergency response scenarios.

Completion Requirements

To successfully complete the course and receive certification, participants must:

  • Attend and participate in 100% of the two-day in-person course

  • Successfully demonstrate all required First Aid and CPR skills and critical steps

  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to recognize and respond to emergencies involving children and babies

  • Achieve a minimum grade of 75% on the written, closed-book knowledge evaluation

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive an official Canadian Red Cross Standard Child Care First Aid certification with CPR Level B, valid for 3 years.

The certificate is registered through the Canadian Red Cross certification system and issued electronically to the participant following successful completion of the course.

Recertification

Eligible participants may renew their certification by completing the Standard Child Care First Aid recertification course.

Recertification Duration: 8 hours in class

Participants must meet the applicable Canadian Red Cross and provincial or territorial eligibility requirements for recertification. Some jurisdictions may have specific requirements regarding whether recertification courses are accepted.

  • Airway emergencies

  • Choking emergencies involving children and babies

  • Breathing and circulation emergencies involving children and babies

  • First Aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest involving children and babies

  • CPR for children and babies

  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use

  • Wound care

  • Head, neck and spinal injuries

  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries

  • Sudden medical emergencies

  • Environmental illnesses and emergencies

  • Poisoning

  • Childhood illnesses

  • Caring for children

  • Injury prevention and child safety

  • Any additional content required by applicable provincial or territorial legislation
