The Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR B course is a Canadian Red Cross one-day First Aid certification course specifically designed for individuals who care for children and babies.

This course focuses on recognizing, preventing and responding to emergencies involving infants and children. Participants learn practical First Aid, CPR and AED skills, including how to respond to choking, breathing and circulation emergencies, injuries, sudden illnesses and other emergencies commonly encountered in child care settings.

The Canadian Red Cross Emergency Child Care First Aid course is designed to meet applicable provincial and territorial early childhood education and daycare worker First Aid requirements. Specific employment and licensing requirements should always be confirmed with the applicable provincial authority.

Duration

Emergency Child Care First Aid: Minimum 8 hours in class

This is an instructor-led, hands-on course with practical First Aid, CPR and AED training.

Completion Requirements

To successfully complete the course and receive certification, participants must:

• Attend and participate in 100% of the in-person course

• Successfully demonstrate all required First Aid and CPR skills and critical steps

• Demonstrate an understanding of how to respond to emergencies involving children and babies

• Achieve a minimum grade of 75% on the written, closed-book knowledge evaluation

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive an official Canadian Red Cross Emergency Child Care First Aid certification with CPR Level B, valid for 3 years.

The certificate is registered through the Canadian Red Cross certification system and issued electronically to the participant following successful completion of the course.

Recertification

Eligible participants may renew their certification by completing the Emergency Child Care First Aid recertification course.

Recertification Duration: 6 hours in class

Participants must meet the applicable Canadian Red Cross and provincial eligibility requirements for recertification.
