The Intermediate / Standard First Aid and CPR C course is a comprehensive Canadian Red Cross workplace First Aid, CPR and AED certification course designed for individuals who require a higher level of workplace First Aid training.

The course curriculum meets the requirements of federal and provincial authorities having jurisdiction over workplace First Aid training and meets the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z1210 standard for Intermediate First Aid training.

In British Columbia, the Canadian Red Cross Intermediate First Aid and CPR C/AED certification is accepted by WorkSafeBC as Intermediate First Aid, formerly known as Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2).

The course provides more extensive training than Basic / Emergency First Aid and covers CPR, AED use, injuries, medical emergencies, environmental illnesses, poisoning and other situations participants may encounter in the workplace or everyday life.

Duration

2 Days Course:

The course consists of approximately 14 hours of instructor-led, in-person training completed over two days.

The blended course provides the same Canadian Red Cross Intermediate First Aid and CPR C/AED certification upon successful completion.

Completion Requirements

To successfully complete the course and receive certification, participants must:

• Complete the required online portion before attending the in-person session when taking the blended course

• Attend and participate in 100% of the required training

• Successfully demonstrate all required First Aid, CPR and AED skills and critical steps

• Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate emergency response procedures

• Achieve a minimum grade of 75% on the written knowledge evaluation

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants receive an official Canadian Red Cross Intermediate First Aid and CPR C/AED certification, valid for 3 years.

The certificate is registered with the Canadian Red Cross and issued electronically through the Canadian Red Cross certification database. Participants receive their digital certificate by email following successful completion of the course.

In British Columbia, this certification is accepted by WorkSafeBC as Intermediate First Aid, formerly OFA Level 2.

Recertification

Eligible participants may renew their certification by completing the Canadian Red Cross Intermediate / Standard First Aid and CPR C recertification course.

The recertification course is approximately 7.5 hours of in-person training.

Participants must meet the applicable eligibility requirements and hold an appropriate certification for recertification.

The level of First Aid required for a particular workplace depends on factors such as the workplace hazard rating, number of workers, location and access to emergency medical services. Employers should determine their required level through their applicable workplace First Aid assessment.

• Airway emergencies

• Breathing and circulation emergencies

• First Aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest

• CPR C for adults, children and infants

• Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use

• Wound care

• Head, neck and spinal injuries

• Bone, muscle and joint injuries

• Sudden medical emergencies

• Environmental illnesses

• Poisoning, including opioid poisoning

• Additional First Aid content required by applicable provincial or federal workplace requirements
